Grande Prairie, Alberta has so much to offer year round. However, fall is truly one of the most spectacular times to visit. Milder temperatures and stunning foliage make the autumn months an ideal time to enjoy the outdoors. Below, we’ve compiled a list of the best outdoor activities to do in Grande Prairie this fall. We hope you enjoy it!

Hit the Links

Golfing is a popular pastime in Grande Prairie, which is why you’ll find numerous courses in and around town. The Dunes Golf & Winter Club, Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club, and Bear Creek Golf Club are all popular choices among visitors and locals alike. These courses tend to stay open until at least Canadian Thanksgiving (the second week of October), so you still have plenty more chances to get in a round before the season ends. Many of the courses in Grande Prairie have both 18-hole and 9-hole options so you can play a shorter game if you choose.

Go on a Nature Walk

Grande Prairie is a natural paradise. There is plenty of green space in this Alberta town, which makes going for a nature walk or hike a great way to spend an afternoon. (Plus, walking outdoors is definitely a COVID-friendly activity so long as you stay six feet apart from others.) One of the best places to go for a walk in Grande Prairie is Saskatoon Island Provincial Park. This park doubles as a wildlife refuge, so it’s the perfect spot for bird watching. Shutter Flats Provincial Recreation Area also has several hiking trails, cycling trails, and campsites to take advantage of.

Spend the Day Fishing

If you’re willing to brave the chilly fall mornings, then we highly recommend getting out on the water for some fishing. Fishing isn’t hard here in Grande Prairie owing to the many lakes and rivers that are nearby. Crystal Lake is the closest and most convenient. Here, you can expect to catch anything from walleye and whitefish to perch and rainbow trout. Moonshine Lake, Kakut Lake, and East Dollar Lake are a little bit further from the hotel but definitely worth it.

If you wish to discover all that Grand Prairie has to offer this fall, then you’ll want to book a room at the Stonebridge Hotel. A short distance from some of the best outdoor attractions in the area, we combine quality accommodation and luxe amenities with an unbeatable location.
