The High on Ice Winter Festival is officially confirmed for 2022! After being canceled due to the pandemic in 2021, we couldn’t be more excited that it’ll be making its return next year.

This annual festival is a major winter highlight for locals and visitors alike. In 2022, the festival is scheduled to take place from February 17th to the 22nd.

Suitable for all ages, next year’s High on Ice Winter Festival is set to feature international ice carving displays, a local ice carving competition, the Mukluk Curling Bonspiel, sleigh rides, ice fishing, snowmobile races, skating, and much more!

Live music and other family-friendly activities will take place all weekend long.

During the festival, local favourite Centennial Park will also be home to the ever-popular ice slide, as well as the Mayor’s Ice Carving Challenge, scheduled for February 19th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The ice carving event, which is one of the main attractions of the festival, is judged by a professional ice carver, and the coveted grand prize trophy will go to the team that best reflects this year’s festival theme, “Spirits from Within.”

The 2022 carving team has already been confirmed and includes Ryan Cook, Kevin Lewis, David Ducharme, Doug Lingelbach, Susanne Ruseler, Ross Baisas, and Tony Baisas.

Rules of the ice carving challenge have been sent out to participants. For example, each team will be provided with four blocks of ice to make their creations out of, and participants are encouraged to bring their own tools (especially power tools) to carve their sculptures.

Check the High on Ice Festival’s website for more details and a full schedule of events closer to the date.
